Tam Brown

Tamara Brown has been around music all of her life! Born into a musical family filled with musicians and singers, Tamara began to play the piano by ear with no formal training. She soon after picked up the tamborine by simply watching others play. By age 12, Tamara picked up the saxophone which has led her to many opportunities. At age 14, Tamara attended the Watkins Overton High School of the Performing Arts for band where she formed a deep love for jazz. As a freshman in high school, Tamara earned 1st chair Wind Ensemble which was the most prestigious band at her school and also earned lead alto in the jazz band headed under trombonist Jackie Thomas. Tamara credits Mr. Thomas for her deep love of music and jazz always encouraging her to do her best. During the duration of high school, Tamara competed and won lead alto and second alto in the All-State Jazz Band for 3 consecutive years. She also perfomed 2nd alto in the Grammy in the School Jazz Ensemble in Memphis Tennessee in 2001 under Dr. Jack Cooper. Being in these bands gave Tamara the opportunity to perform for jazz greats such as Frank Foster of the Count Basie Orchestra, John Fetchock, Mike Vax and the late James Williams.
In 2001, Tamara started her journey at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville where as a freshman she earned 1st chair in the Symponic Bands and lead alto in the UT Big Band Ensemble for 2 consecutive years. Here she was able to perform with and for artist such as Kenny Garrett, Ira Sullivan, Sam Rivers, Members of the Woody Herman Orchestra, Jerry Coker, and Donald Brown. Tamara also sings r&b, jazz, and Brazilian music singing in Portuguese fluently. Tamara is happy to be a member of The Aftah Party Band where she was able to find her way back to music!
